Easy Cryptogram Puzzles
Easy cryptograms use shorter quotes — typically under 55 letters — with common, recognizable letter patterns that give you plenty of footholds from the very first move. They're the ideal starting point if you've never solved a cryptogram before, and a satisfying quick puzzle when you want something engaging but not demanding.
What makes an easy cryptogram easy isn't just length — it's the ratio of common letters to uncommon ones. Easy puzzles tend to feature quotes that use everyday vocabulary, which means you'll encounter frequent letters like E, T, A, O, and I in abundance. Those common letters create more overlap between words, giving you more confirmed letters with each correct guess. A typical easy puzzle can be solved in two to four minutes once you've got the approach down.
How to Approach Easy Puzzles
With easy puzzles, the fastest approach is to go straight for the one-letter and two-letter words. A single cipher letter standing alone is almost certainly A or I. Two-letter words narrow to a short list — IS, IT, IN, AT, TO, OF, ON — and any one of them gives you two letters to work with immediately. From there, look for short words that share letters with ones you've already decoded. Easy puzzles tend to fall quickly once you have three or four confirmed letters in play.
