Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher born into slavery around 50 CE, whose teachings emphasized personal freedom through virtue and acceptance of fate. Though physically enslaved, he taught that true liberty comes from controlling what lies within our power—our thoughts, desires, and judgments—rather than external circumstances.
