About Jeremiah

Jeremiah was a Hebrew prophet who lived in Jerusalem during the late seventh and early sixth centuries BCE, a period of intense political upheaval as the Babylonian Empire rose to dominance in the ancient Near East. He is traditionally credited as the author of the biblical Book of Jeremiah and the Book of Lamentations, making him one of the most prolific writers in the Hebrew Bible. His recorded speeches and writings document the final decades of the Kingdom of Judah, culminating in the Babylonian siege and destruction of Jerusalem around 586 BCE, events also corroborated by ancient Babylonian historical records.

💡

Did you know? Jeremiah was active as a prophet in Jerusalem from approximately 627 BCE until after the Babylonian destruction of the city in 586 BCE, making his ministry span roughly four decades during one of Judah's most turbulent periods.
