Norm Macdonald was a Canadian stand-up comedian and actor best known for his deadpan delivery and fearless refusal to chase easy laughs. He anchored the Weekend Update desk on Saturday Night Live throughout the 1990s, where his relentless O.J. Simpson jokes famously got him fired by a network executive who was a friend of Simpson. Macdonald believed that a joke which made the audience uncomfortable was often funnier than one that simply pleased them, a philosophy that made him a comedian's comedian.
